Gas or electric: which Tokyo Marui is right for you?
ガスガン · Gas
Gas blowback (GBB pistols, MWS rifles)
- The slide or bolt cycles on every shot, so it feels closest to the real thing.
- Run on green gas, so you’ll need gas, and the magazines hold the gas.
- Gas pressure drops in the cold, so expect weaker performance on winter game days.
- Best for players who want realism and are happy to maintain their magazines.
電動ガン · Electric
Electric (AEG, NGRS, High Cycle, electric pistols)
- Battery-powered, so performance stays the same all year round.
- Cheaper to run: no gas to buy, just a charged battery.
- NGRS models add recoil from a moving bolt and stop firing when the magazine is empty.
- Best as a main gun for regular skirmishing, especially for new players.

Tokyo Marui FAQ
Are Tokyo Marui guns worth the money?
Marui is known for consistent factory quality and accurate hop-ups out of the box. Its Hi-Capa and VSR-10 platforms are also among the most widely supported for upgrade parts. If you want something that works well from day one and can be upgraded later, Marui is a safe pick.
Do Tokyo Marui guns meet UK site power limits?
Marui builds its guns to Japan’s legal power limit, which is lower than most UK site limits. Your site will still chrono every gun, and limits vary from site to site, so check your local site’s rules.
Gas or electric for my first Tokyo Marui?
For a first main gun, electric (a standard AEG or NGRS) is the easier choice. It costs less to run and isn’t affected by cold weather. A gas blowback pistol makes a good sidearm once you’re playing regularly. See the comparison above.

Do I need UKARA to buy a Tokyo Marui?
You need UKARA (or another valid defence) for a realistic-finish RIF. You don’t need it for a two-tone model, but you must be 18 or over.
